This study was performed on determine the polymorphism frequencies of the
ınterleukın-6 (IL-6) gene 572G/C and to examine the role of this polymorphism in
type-2 diabetes, diabetic nephropathy and diabetic retinopathy development. Genomic
DNA obtained from 210 persons was used in the study. IL-6 gene 572G/C
polymorphism were determined using the PCR, restriction fragment length
polymorphism (RFLP) and electrophoresis. IL-6 gene PCR products was discontinued
by treatment with restriction enzyme BsrBI, and were analyzed in 2% agarose gel
electrophoresis. The results were statistically analyzed. Accordingly; In this study,
The frequencies of G572C genotypes, in controls GG 83.1%, GC 16.9%, CC 0% and
in Type-2 patients GG 88.2%, GC 9.4%, CC 2.4% were found. There was no
statistically significant difference between the control group and the patient groups in
genotype frequencies. It was determined that GC genotype frequency increases
significantly in control according to patient group. As a result, we can not say that
there is an interaction between IL-6 gene 572 G/C polymorphism with type-2 diabetes,
diabetic nephropathy and diabetic retinopathy.
