katlama işlemleri sonucu (PV>5) elde edilmiştir Effects of some pre-treatments (scarification and cold stratification) on seed germination of Cotoneaster
nummularia Fisch.&Mey. native to Artvin, Turkey were investigated in this study. The seeds were collected from
their natural habitats in Artvin, Turkey. Pretreatments of scarification with sulfuric acid, cold stratification or
scarification with sulfuric acid followed by cold stratification were applied to the seeds for dormancy removal.
Germination tests of 200 seeds (divided into 4 replicates of 50 seeds) were carried out at 20 ºC with 12 h light per
day. Four replications (petri dishes) were placed in germinator and the seeds were germinated on top of filter
paper in each dish in the lab. Cotoneaster nummularia seeds show a high degree of dormancy. A combination of
scarification and stratification resulted in highest germination performance in the species. The maximum value of
germination performance was obtained when Cotoneaster nummularia seeds were scarified with concentrated
sulfuric acid for 120 minutes followed by cold stratification for 60 days.
