The concept of “prefigurative politics” invites geographers to envision transformative change through a shift in practices stemming from a micro level. This article examines and substantiates how this idea is mobilised in relation to current sustainability transformations. A large interdisciplinary group of geographers and transition scholars present topic clusters of prefigurative enablers that instigate and catalyse the enactment of transformative policymaking towards sustainable futures. Drawing on dozens of rich and diverse examples to illustrate cases of transformation, we provide a conceptual perspective to advance the theoretical discussion about triggers and processes of transformative change amongst geographers. We argue for three principles for examining the prefigurative politics of present transformation: (a) multi-scalarity, to consider prefigurative politics across personal-systemic spheres; (b) boundary transgression, to span interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary as well as inward- and outward-looking prefigurative politics; and (c) temporalities, to address institutionalisation and change processes that play out along short and long timelines. Approaching present transformations through a prefigurative politics lens helps identify scope for action that aligns with transformative change. We argue for wider deployment of these principles, to synthesise scholarship, channel micro-level prefigurative political efforts into systemic transformative change, and guide future research and policymaking towards sustainability transformations.
Sokrates’in davasında yasanın işlevi üzerine üç uğrak: Euthyphron, Sokratesin savunması ve Kriton
(Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi, 2025) Sabancı, Celal
Bu çalışma Sokrates’in ölüm sürecinde yasanın işlevini Platon’un Euthypron, Sokrates’in Savunması ve Kriton adlı eserlerinde resmedildiği biçimiyle ele almaktadır. Sokrates’in ölümüne ilişkin farklı kavrayışların olduğunu söylemek mümkündür. Bu çalışmanın amacı Sokrates’in formüle ettiği biçimiyle erdemli yaşamanın imkânını sorgulama ve Sokrates’in bizatihi kendisinin ölüme giderken hâlihazırdaki misyonuna uygun davranıp davranmadığını tespit etmektir. Bu bağlamda onun yasalara koşulsuz olarak boyun eğmesinin doğruluğu tartışılmıştır.
Hydrophite plant species naturally distributed in Artvin province and their medicinal-aromatic uses
(BÜLENT VEREP, 2025) Eminağaoğlu, Özgür; Akyıldırım Beğen, Hayal
Artvin Province, with 2,727 plant taxa, is Turkey’s richest region in terms of plant diversity. This study aimed to list the hydrophyte plant species distributed in Artvin and its districts, quantify them based on aquatic plant types, sample them from the field, and determine their medicinal-aromatic uses. Floristic studies conducted between 2013 and 2024 identified natural plant species growing in aquatic habitats, and their habitat, flowering period, and medicinal-aromatic uses were documented. A total of 236 hydrophyte taxa belonging to 48 families and 135 genera were identified in Artvin Province. When categorized by habitat, 160 species were classified as marsh hydrophytes, 56 species as amphibious hydrophytes, 2 species as free-floating hydrophytes, 9 species as fixed-floating hydrophytes, and 8 species as submerged hydrophytes. The families with the highest number of species were Poaceae (45 taxa), followed by Cyperaceae (43 taxa), and Lamiaceae (10 taxa). 126 taxa were found to have medicinal uses, while 109 taxa had no recorded medicinal-aromatic uses. Additionally, threats and threat categories for these species were identified and documented.
Kadın katılımcıların %89.8’i kendi kendine meme muayenesini duymuş olup %25.8’i kendi kendine meme muayenesi yapmamaktadır. Kadınların %60.3 klinik meme muayenesi, %56.6 sı mamografi ve %72.7’si meme ultrasonu çektirmemiştir. Kadın katılımcılar geniş kapsamlı meme kanseri bilgi testinin meme kanseri konusundaki genel bilgiler alt boyutundan 7.01±1.92, meme kanserinin tedavi edilebilirliği ile ilgili bilgiler alt boyutundan 4.79±2.08 ve toplamından 11.79±3.17 puan almıştır. Meme kanserinin tedavi edilebilirliği ve genel bilgi düzeyleri kendi kendine meme muayenesini duyma durumu, kendi kendine meme muayenesi yapma sıklığı, klinik meme muayenesini duyma durumu, mamografi ve meme ultrasonu çektirme durumuna göre anlamlı olduğu bulunmuştur (p<0.01) Sonuç: Bu sonuçlar doğrultusunda meme kanseri bilgi testinin toplam puanın ortalama puana yakın olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Yapılan çalışma sonucunda kadınların meme kanseri tarama testleri hakkında daha fazla bilgilendirme yapılıp tarama programlarının sıklığı arttırılarak uygulanabilirlik olasılığının arttırılması önerilmektedir.
Brexitland’s emerging identities in clint Dyer and Roy Williams’s Death of England trilogy
(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2025) Gültekin, Hakan
This article examines the intersection of political identities and cultural conflicts in the postBrexit United Kingdom through Roy Williams and Clint Dyer’s Death of England trilogy. It examines how individuals in the United Kingdom, already marked by deep identity divisions, confront identity, belonging and nationalism, and how they redefine these concepts in a changing socio-political context. The first play in the trilogy, Death of England, is about Michael coming to terms with his father Alan’s nationalist and xenophobic views. The play explores how Brexit has exposed individual and generational tensions and addresses identity crises on a personal level. The second play, Death of England: Delroy, shifts the narrative to the perspective of a Black British character, examining Delroy’s vote to leave the European Union despite his marginalisation. This conflict reveals how race, immigration and class dynamics are intertwined with nationalist discourses. Death of England: Closing Time, on the other hand, critiques the gendered dimension of national identity politics by focusing on the perspectives of female characters Carly and Denise. Drawing on Soboleska and Ford’s (2020) concept of Brexitland, which also gives its title to the book, the article discusses how Brexit has pushed traditional economic class conflicts into the background and brought identity-based divisions to the forefront. As a result, the plays bring the emotional and ideological fractures created by Brexit to the stage, demonstrating that theatre is a critical tool for understanding this transformation.
