A few studies have compared the effects of different anesthetic agents used for trans-thoracic echocardiography on cardiac functions in dogs; however, none of these studies examined the effects of different anesthetic regimes and their reversal by atipamezole echoc ardio graph icall y. The aim of this study was to investigate, visualize, and clarify in vivo both the short-term echocardiographic impacts of medet omidi ne-ke tamin e and medet omidi ne-pr opofo l anesthesia regimes and their reversal in dogs. Twenty sexually intact female dogs (weighing between 5.7 and 14.5 kg and 0.5-3 years of age) referred for ovariohysterectomy procedure from a local shelter at regular intervals over 3 months were included in the study. Echocardiographic measurements of the two-dimensional guided M-mode echocardiography were conducted with the dogs positioned in right lateral recumbence. Both groups showed declines in interventricu-lar septum percent, left ventricular diameter percent, and left ventricular ejection fraction after anesthesia induction (baseline vs. T1, all, p < .05); nevertheless, the reduction and starting pattern of interventricular septum percent, left ventricular diameter percent, and left ventricular ejection fra-ction presented important intergroup distinction. The echocardiographic values were affected significantly after anesthesia with medet omidine- ketamin e and medet omidi ne-pr opofo l; atipamezole can be useful for return to baseline values quickly and safely in dogs after abdominal sur-gery such as ovariohysterectomy.Öğe Effects of medetomidine/ketamine and xylazine/ketamine anesthesia and their reversal by atipamezole on ocular parameters and monitored anesthesia care in cats(Ankara Üniversitesi Veterinerlik Fakültesi, 2022) Kibar, Murat; Keskin, Abdulkadir; Aymirzakizi, Ayperi; Öztürk, ZeynepThe aim of this study was to investigate the impact of the general anesthetic drug ketamine and premedication agents medetomidine and xylazine, and their reversal by atipamezole, on monitored anesthesia care values and ocular parameters such as intraocular pressure, horizontal pupillar diameter, and Schirmer tear test in cats. A randomized, single-blinded study was conducted. Twenty intact female cats (weiging between 2.2 and 3.6 kg, and 0.5 to 5.5 years of age) referred for ovariohysterectomy (OHE) procedure by the owners at regular intervals over 4 months were included in the study. The cats were randomly divided into two groups containing 10 animals in each group. The cats were premedicated with medetomidine 80 µg/kg intramuscular in group 1 while the cats in the 2nd group were premedicated with xylazine hydrochloride 2 mg/kg intramuscular. After the OHE procedure was ended, anesthesia regimes were reversed by using atipamezole 200 µg/kg intramuscularly. Monitoring of respiration rate, heart rate, mean arterial pressure, peripheral arterial oxygen saturation, and body temperature were conducted using a patient monitor at T0, T1, T2, T3, and T4 time points. Both groups showed declines in intraocular pressure and increases in horizontal pupil diameter after anesthesia induction (T0 vs. T1, all, P<0.05); however, the chancing and recovery pattern of intraocular pressure and horizontal pupil diameter showed intergroup difference. In conclusion, xylazine/ketamine is more effective than medetomidine/ketamine in attenuating the intraocular pressure, increasing the horizontal pupil diameter, and alteration the monitored anesthesia care response in the general anesthesia.Öğe Efficacy of oral transmucosal administrations of phenylbutazone for postoperative analgesia in dogs undergoing ovariohysterectomy(Israel Veterinary Medicine Association, 2021) Kibar, Murat; Tuna, Bilginer; Kısadere, İhsan; Güzelbektaş, HasanThe aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy and analgesic duration of a single dose of Phenylbutazone (PBZ) administered by the oral transmucosal (OTM) or via the intravenous (IV) route immediately before induction of anesthesia in dogs undergoing elective ovohysterectomy (OVH). Twenty-seven sexually intact female dogs referred for OVH procedure from a local shelter at regular intervals over 3 months, were included in the study. The dogs were administered PBZ and the placebo on the basis of their respective treatment group (20 mg/kg, IV; 20 mg/kg via OTM administration; 1.75 ml/kg IV 0.9% NaCl) before administration of xvlazine. Throughout the study, vital signs were measured at baseline (T-0, before administration of PBZ) and then at 5 (T-1), 10 (T-2), 15 (T-3), 20 (T-4), 25 (T-5), and 30 (T-6) minutes intraoperatively. Postoperative pain was assessed at 0.5, 1,2, 3, 8, and 24 hours after operation. Groups OTM and IV had significantly lower Composite Measure Pain Scale (CMPS-SF) scores (r0.05) than the control group at the 0.5, 1, 2, 3, and 8 hours postoperatively. The analgesic (carprofen) was used with all dogs. In conclusion, a single dose of PBZ administered via the OTM route before surgery provided some analgesia but was not enough on its own for the postoperative period. Additionally, PBZ administred via the OTM route did not provide a dissimilar analgesia than the IV route.Öğe Intraocular pressure measured by rebound tonometry in seven raptor species(Hellenic Veterinary Medical Soc, 2022) Yonez, Muhammed Kaan; Erol, Maral; Erol, Hanifi; Atalan Güneri; Doğan, Zümrüt; Kibar, MuratThe purpose of this study was to investigate the applicability of Rebound tonometer for the intraocular pressure measurement and to determine the correlation between intraocular pressure reference values and body weight in different raptor species.In the present study, intraocular pressure of 66 Long-legged buzzard (132 eyes), 20 Eurasian sparrowhawk (40 eyes), 13 Eurasian eagle-owl (26 eyes), 6 Golden eagles (12 eyes), 6 Common kestrels (12 eyes), 4 Peregrine falcon (8 eyes), 2 Griffon vulture (4 eyes), which referred to Erciyes University, Faculty of Veterinary Med-icine, Department of Surgery Clinic were evaluated. In the ophthalmologic examination there was no lesion detected related to eyes. The mean body weight raptors was 1.10??0.23 kg in Long-legged buzzard, 0.23??0.06 kg in Eurasian sparrow hawk, 0.27??0.10 in Eurasian eagle-owl, 3.30??0.80 kg in Golden eagles, 0,18??0.04 kg in Common kestrels, 0,64??0,28 kg in Peregrine falcon and 2.28??0.43 kg in Griffon vulture. Rebound tonometer was used for measurement of intraocular pressure. Mean intraocular pressure of right and left eyes were in Long-legged buzzard 25.87??0.62-26.61??0.71, Eurasian sparrow hawk 11.90??0.40-12.05??0.41, Eurasian eagle-owl 12.00??0.63-12.61??0.57, Golden ea-gles 29.00??2.89-30.33??2.87, Common kestrels 11.75??0.17-10.83??0.47, Peregrine falcon 14.75??1.10-14.25??0.85 and Griffon vulture 15.00??1.00-14.50??0.50. As a result of the study, Rebound tonometer is a reliable method for measuring intraocular pressure in small eyes and minimizes stress, well tolerated by raptors in intraocular pressure measurements. While there was a positive correlation detected between body weight and IOP values among the species, no correlation was observed between body weight and IOP values within the same species. The intraocular pressure values obtained in this study will help veterinary ophthalmologists and wild animal veterinarians to evaluate changes intraocular pres-sure in raptor and contribute to the literature.Öğe Kedilerde medetomidin/ketamin ve ksilazin/ketamin anestezisinin kardiovasküler fonksiyonlar üzerindeki etkilerinin ve atipamezol ile geri dönüşümünün karşılaştırılması(Van Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi, 2022) Kibar, Murat; Zhunushova, Aidai; Öztürk, ZeynepBu çalışmanın amacı, medetomidin/ketamin (MED-KET) ve ksilazin/ketamin (KSZ-KET) anestezisindeki kedilerde kısa süreli kardiyovasküler etkilerini ve atipamezol ile bu etkilerinin geri dönüşümünü ekokardiyografi tekniği ile araştırmaktı. Erişkin 20 dişi kedi (ağırlığı 2.2-3.6 kg ve yaşı 0.5-5.5 arasında) ovariyohisterektomi için getirildi. Elektrokardiyogram, invaziv olmayan kan basıncı ölçümü, solunum sayısı, kalp atımı ve periferik oksijen düzeyi anestezi süresince izlendi. Her iki grup anestezi indüksiyonundan sonra sol ventrikül çapı (%LVD) ve sol ventrikül fırlatma fraksiyonu (EF) azalması (T0’a karşı T1, p<0.05) göstermiştir. Bununla birlikte azalma ve başlangıç değerlerine dönüş gruplar arasında istatistiki olarak farklıydı. Sonuç olarak, MED-KET ve KSZ-KET ile anestezi sonrası ekokardiyografik değerlerin anlamlı düzeyde etkilendiği ve atipamezolün, ovariohisterektomi gibi abdominal cerrahiler sonrasında kedilerde hızlı ve güvenli bir şekilde başlangıç değerlerine dönüş için faydalı olabileceği kanısına varıldı.Öğe Microtia and anotia in a dog(Ankara Üniversitesi, 2018) Kibar, MuratThe aim of this case presentation is to report microtia and anotia in a 3?year?old female dog. Owner complained about hearing loss and absence of auricles. There were no auricles in both control ears in clinical examination. Degree of the hearing problem was nearly deafness. A fistula was determined in left lateral cranial side. Grade III microtia and grade IV anotia were diagnosed in the ear canal of the left and right sides, respectively. Under general anesthesia, the dog underwent auricular reconstructive surgery for microtia on the left side. Two weeks after operation, the owner evaluated the patient’s hearing as moderate. This finding was clinically confirmed through performance of the Pyror’s reflex. In conclusion, grade III microtia can be treated surgically to improve the conductive hearing of the patient.
