Öğe Investigation of the electrical potential of whey using a river sediment microbial fuel cell(Chemical Society of Ethiopia, 2024) Ateş, Esra; Sanin, Selim LatifThis study aimed to use whey and river sediment microbial fuel cells (SMFCs) to produce electrical potential, which has been investigated rarely in previous studies. In this study, the majority of the microorganisms in the river SMFC mixed culture were Bacteroides and Clostridium. After the voltage and internal resistance were measured, the current and power density were calculated. The power density (279*10-³ mW/cm²) and maximum current density (1100*10-? mA/cm2) were determined through computations. Bacteria present in river SMFCs showed the potential to generate electricity without any external mediators. By utilizing organic materials, bioelectricity can be produced affordably and sustainably.Öğe Public perception of environmental risk in Turkey(Parlar Scientific Publications, 2017) Ayla, Bilgin; Sanin, Selim LatifKnowledge towards the understanding of environmental conscious and risks in Turkey is limited. In this study the answers from 635 people from different cities are evaluated who are asked to fill forms containing questions about environmental and social topics between years 2006-2012. With these results modern life concept and environmental risk perception of Turkish people are evaluated. First of all what Turkish people consider as risk and their ranks in their daily life is questioned. According to the findings in twenty-first century social factors have the priority for Turkish people. Environmental priorities are guided by the press. Turkish people would like to see professionals in the management of environmental topics. According to the results only %22 of the respondents were trained on civil defense topics. Nuclear energy is not accepted by the majority of the population. Results indicate the need for a systemic and extended education program towards the development of an environmental consciousness.Öğe Remediation of endosulfan using zeolite biobarrier(Parlar Scientific Publications, 2014) Bilgin, Ayla; Sanin, Selim LatifBiobarrier is an effective and economically feasible in-situ treatment technology for the treatment of non-point contaminants. In this study, endosulfan, an organochlorine pesticide, is remediated successfully in the laboratory columns where natural zeolite from Manisa (Gordes) Turkey is used as the support material. Bioremediation studies was conducted in parallel reactors, under two different pH conditions (7 and 8.5), which led to 90% and 100% removal rates, respectively.
