Dimensions of body image: body image scale
(Türk Psikolojik Danışma ve Rehberlik Derneği, 2022) Saylan, Ezgi; Soyyiğit, Vesile
This study aims at developing a measuring instrument of which validity and reliability for measuring the body images of individuals during adolescence and young adulthood are proven. The study group consists of 384 high school students. The content validity of the study was tested by seeking an expert opinion and the construct validity was tested by applying explanatory (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) factor analysis. In the scope of analysis, IBM SPSS Statistics v20.0 and Lisrel 8.80 programs were used. As a result of EFA, a four-factor structure, which explains 62% of the total variance and is composed of 21 items, was obtained. The factors were called “Negative Perception of the Body”, “Evaluation Sensitivity”, “Positive Perception of the Body”, and “Body Change”. As a result of CFA, it was determined that the four-factor structure consisting of 21 items had an adequate fit index. As a consequence of reliability analysis, it was found that the Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficients, calculated for EFA and CFA samples, being .92 and .88 fell within acceptable values. The findings obtained following the item analysis demonstrated that the total score of items listed in the Body Image Scale presented a high level of predictive power and distinctiveness. The Body Image Scale can be defined as a valid and reliable measuring instrument to be used to measure the body image of adolescents and young adults.

Genç yetişkinlerde algılanan sosyal destek ve kendini açmanın dijital oyun bağımlılığı üzerindeki yordayıcı etkisi
    (2023) Saylan, Ezgi; Çolak, Recep
Objective: This study aims to examine the predictive roles of perceived social support and self-disclosure on digital game addiction in young adults. Method: The participants of this research, which is structured according to the relational survey model, consist of 382 young adult individuals. Participants were selected by a convenient sampling method. Personal Information Form, Digital Game Addiction Scale, Self-Disclosure Scale, and Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale were used as data collection tools in the study. Result: The predictive model explained 58% of the variance in digital game addiction. In addition, as a result of the analysis, the amount of self-disclosure (? = -.08, p<.01) was a negative predictor of digital game addiction, and control (? = .77, p<.01) was a positive predictor of digital game addiction; perceived support from family (? = .01, p>.05), perceived support from friends (? = -.05, p>.05), perceived support from special person (? = .04, p>.05), intention (? = .04, p>.05), positivity (? = .05, p>.05) and honesty (? = .02, p>.05) sub-dimensions were not found to be significant predictors of digital game addiction. Conclusion: The increase in perceived social support did not affect digital game addiction. As another result, considering that the increase in self-disclosure behavior has a reducing effect on digital game addiction, self-disclosure behavior can be considered one of the protective factors in digital game addiction.
