Özellikle toprakla temas halinde olan ve çürüklük riskinin yüksek olduğu bölgelerde yıkanma oranının yüksek olması nedeniyle, kullanılan ağaç malzemelerin emprenyesinde bu hususlar göz önüne alınmalı ve emprenye formülasyonuna ek fungisitlerin ilavesi düşünülebilir.Öğe Bioenergy in the Black Sea Basin Countries: Status, Prospects and Possibilities(Artvin Çoruh Üniversitesi Orman Fakültesi Dergisi, 2013) Akbaş, Selçuk; Temiz, Ali; Demirci, Ufuk; Tufan, Mürşit; Güleç, TürkerIn recent years, concern about global climate change and air quality has increased interest in bioenergy from renewable sources. Hakki; Parlak, Salih; Köse, GayeThis study aimed at determining the chemical composition of bio-oil from giant cane (Arundo donax L.), as well as its performance as a wood preservative. The performance was determined through water absorption, tangential swelling, and resistance to fungi and termites. Bio-oil was obtained by pyrolysis at 450 to 525 degrees C. The yield of liquid, char, and gas was determined to be 45, 30, and 25%, respectively. The most abundant chemical compounds found in the bio-oil were acids, ketones, furans, benzenes, phenols, sugars, and guaiacols. Scots pine sapwood was impregnated with the obtained bio-oil at concentrations of 10 and 20%. Additionally, treated samples were impregnated with epoxidized linseed oil to study its effect on bio-oil leachability. The retention of the giant cane bio-oil was in the range of 50 to 100 kg m(-3). Leached samples were exposed to white-and brown-rot fungi, according to European standard EN 113. Wood impregnated with only cane oil demonstrated a durability that classifies the treatment as very effective (mass loss less than 3%). Epoxidized linseed oil treatment significantly reduced water absorption of the treated samples with bio-oil and further improved the durability. A termite test showed that bio-oil was also effective against Reticulitermes flavipes.Öğe Effect of bio-oil and epoxidized linseed oil on physical, mechanical and biological properties of treated wood(Wiley, 2013) Temiz, Ali; Köse, Gaye; Panov, Dmitri; Terziev, Nasko; Alma, Mehmet Hakkı; Palanti, Sabrina; Akbaş, SelçukIn this article, the effects of bio-oil and epoxidized linseed oil (ELO) on water absorption, tangential swelling, decay and insect resistance, thermo-gravimetric analysis, and mechanical properties of treated wood samples were studied. The bio-oil used in this article was by-product of ThermoWood thermal modification process. Linseed oil and hydrogen peroxide were used to prepare ELO. The results indicated that the samples treated with bio-oil had lower water absorption than that of the control group. The sec- ond treatment with ELO significantly reduced further the water absorption. The decay resistance of treated wood samples with 20% of bio-oil against brown (Coniophora puteana) and white rot (Trametes versicolor) fungi was very high. According to the insect test results, increasing bio-oil concentration from 10% to 20% significantly decreased surviving rate of Hylotrupes bajulus. Thermo-gravi- metric analysis showed that all treated samples had higher initial deterioration temperature than that of the control group. Regarding the wood strength, the impregnated bio-oil generally reduced the mechanical properties of wood except modulus of elasticity (MOE). VC 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 130: 1562–1569, 201Öğe Effect of climate factors on wood veneers exposed to outdoor conditions in black sea region(International Caucasian Forestry Symposium, 2013) Köse, Gaye; Temiz, Ali; Akbaş, Selçuk; Özkan, EmreIn this study, 2×100×200 mm wood veneers obtained from Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.), European black pine (Pinus nigra Arn.) and beech (Fagus orientalis L.) wood were exposed to outdoor climate conditions at three different cities (Trabzon, Artvin, and Kastamonu) of Black Sea region in Turkey for totally 4 months from May to August, 2012. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of climate factors on the changes occurred on different types of wood veneers that were subjected to outdoor weathering conditions. Weight losses, surface roughness, and color changes occurred on veneers were determined during natural weathering. Additionally, the weathering map of wood in three cities studied was calculated using Scheffer Climate Index (SCI) in order to characterize the potential decay risk of wood materials. Accordingly, at the end of the 4 months, the highest weight losses for Scots pine veneers were obtained from the weathering conditions in Artvin while the lowest weight losses were obtained in Kastamonu. For European black pine and beech veneers, the highest weight losses were obtained from Trabzon, and the lowest weight losses were obtained from Kastamonu. The highest color change value (?E*) obtained from Trabzon and Artvin, the lowest ?E* obtained from Kastamonu for Scots pine veneers. For European black pine veneers, the highest ?E* obtained from Trabzon while the lowest ?E* was obtained from Artvin and Kastamonu. For beech veneers, the highest ?E* was obtained from Artvin, the lowest ?E* obtained from Kastamonu. For all veneers, the lowest surface roughness was determined in Trabzon. The highest surface roughness was obtained in Artvin for Scots pine and it was obtained in Kastamonu for European black pine and beech. Based on the result of SCI analysis, the most risky city for decay potential of fungi was Trabzon, then Artvin and Kastamonu, respectively.Öğe The effect of plasma treatment on mechanical properties, surface roughness and durability of plywood treated with copper-based wood preservatives(Springer, 2016) Temiz, Ali; Akbaş, Selçuk; Aydın, İsmail; Demirkır, CenkThe effect of plasma treatment on strength properties of wood-based composites was studied. Veneers were obtained from beech logs (Fagus orientalis L.) and treated with 3 % of Tanalith E and Celcure AC-500. Two types of gasses (O-2 and N-2) were tested for plasma treatment. The effect of plasma treatment on bonding shear strength, bending strength and modulus of elasticity of plywood panels were determined according to EN 314-1 and EN 310, respectively. Surface roughness, leaching, decay test against white (Trametes versicolor) and brown rot [Postia placenta (FPRL 280)] and ground contact test of plywood samples were evaluated after plasma treatment. Results showed that plasma treatment with O-2 increased the bonding strength of plywood compared to control and treated groups. However, plasma treatment slightly increased the mass losses caused by white rot, but decreased mass losses caused by brown rot in some groups. Regarding leaching test, plasma treatment slightly increased the leaching rate of copper in some groups. Ground contact test revealed that there was no delamination in bonding line on the plasma-treated samples.Öğe Leaching and decay resistance of alder and pine wood treated with copper based wood preservatives(Biobío Üniversitesi, 2014) Temiz, Ali; Alfredsen, Gry; Yıldız, Ümit Cafer; Gezer, Engin Derya; Köse, Gaye; Akbaş, Selçuk; Yıldız, SibelThe objective of this study was to determine the leaching and decay resistance of Alder (Alnus glutinosa subsp. barbata) and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) wood samples treated with copper based preservatives. Samples were treated with CCA, ACQ, Tanalith E and Wolmanit with different concentrations. Scots pine samples were exposed the mini-block test against brown rot fungi (Poria placenta) and Coniophora puteana while alder wood samples were tested against brown rot fungi (Coniophora puteana) and white rot fungi (Coriolus versicolor). Regarding to leaching test, treated samples were impregnated with 300 ml of distilled water and after 6, 24, 48 and thereafter at 48-hour intervals, the leachate was removed and replaced with fresh distilled water according to AWPA E11. Samples of each leachate were collected and retained for copper analysis. Amount of copper released from treated wood during the leaching test was chemically analyzed with Atomic Absorption spectroscopy. Perchloric acid procedure for the digestion of wood was used according to AWPA A7-97. The amount of copper component (Qd), the cumulative quantities leached (Qc) and the average daily fluxes (FLUX) were calculated. Results shows that CCA treated samples release less copper compared to other copper based preservatives used in this study. Highest mass losses were obtained from the leached samples treated with 1% of ACQ-2200 against decay fungi.Öğe Odun kompozitlerinin koruyucu maddelerle emprenye edilebilme olanakları(Artvin Çoruh Üniversitesi Orman Fakültesi Dergisi, 2003) Gezer, Engin Derya; Yıldız, Ümit Cafer; Temiz, Ali; Yıldız, SibelSon yıllarda kullanımında hızlı artışlar gözlenen odun kompozitlerinin kullanım yerlerine bağlı olarak (yonga ve lif levha, tabakalı ve lamine ağaç malzemeler vb.) odun tahripçisi organizmalara karşı koruyucu kimyasal maddelerle emprenye edilmesi gerekmektedir. The WS flour was compounded with PP and HDPE at 50% (weight) content with and without coupling agent in a single screw extruder. Then, granulated compositions were manufactured by press moulding process. Some mechanical properties (Tensile, impact, flexural strength), TGA and DSC were performed on the polymer composites samples. When WS flour were added 3% coupling agent bending properties of the HDPE and PP samples increased to 1340 MPa and 1514 MPa, respectively. However, WS2 samples which HDPE composites type was added 3% coupling agent in the form showed 26% lower impact factor than WS1. The addition of coupling agents improved the properties of polymer composites. MAPE coupling agents performed better in HDPE while MAPP coupling agents were superior in PP based composites. According to mechanical properties of the composites groups, the lowest strength was in the WS3 which content 50% PP without couple agent. All produced composites provided mechanical properties required by the ASTM D662 standard for plastic lumber decking boards. The analysis showed that MAPE didn’t affect to thermal degradation of 47% WS filled HDPE composites samples. Melting temperature was around WS1 and WS2 130 °C while WS3 and WS4 around 165 °C. The second melting peak temperature of WS2 composites with 3% coupling agent was around 170 °C. As a result Walnut shell which was considered agricultural waste can be utilized in polymer composite production.
