Öğe Current problems and solutions of certified public accountants in Türkiye(Scientific Oasis, 2025) Aytekin, Ahmet; İstanbullu, Beril; Kara, KübraThis study aims to determine the main problems of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and the sub-problems under them and to develop solution proposals for these problems. In this context, evaluations will be obtained regarding the problems of CPAs and the solutions to these problems via the q-rung orthopair fuzzy Delphi technique. The study differentiates itself from the literature and reveals its originality with the revealing of current problems of CPAs, the development of solution proposals for these problems, and the employed methodological approach. Based on literature and expert opinions, 53 problems and 14 solution suggestions were identified. It was found that the 28 problems were critical, and the nine solution suggestions could provide a meaningful solution. In addition, the findings showed that the most critical problems were the stress of the profession, heavy workload, and frequently changing legislation. The most critical solution proposals were to transfer the legal obligations that coincide with the financial holiday period to the next month by the Ministry of Finance, to prepare the legislation related to accounting in coordination with chambers and members of the accounting profession, and to simplify tax declarations.Öğe Development and psychometric evaluation of the artificial intelligence ethical awareness scale(Routledge, 2025) Kanbay, Yalçın; Arkan, Burcu; Akçam, Aysun; Varol, BelginThe rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into daily life has created ethical challenges, highlighting the need for responsible use. This methodological study developed the AI Ethical Awareness Scale to measure individuals’ awareness levels. Data were collected from 616 AI users, and analyses confirmed a three-factor, nine-item structure: Transparency, Integrity, and Awareness. The scale demonstrated strong reliability and validity, explaining 74.8% of the variance. Developed within the Turkish cultural context, it is a valid and reliable tool to assess AI ethical awareness. The AIEAS can be used to assess the effectiveness of ethics education programs or inform policy recommendations regarding responsible AI use. It also holds potential for adaptation across different cultural settings to support cross-cultural research.Öğe The long-run relationship between labour force participation rate and unemployment rate for Türkiye: COVID-19 matters(Routledge, 2025) Sivri, UğurThis article investigates the long-run relationship between the labour force participation rate and the unemployment rate for Türkiye. Using Johansen cointegration methodology, both aggregate and gender-disaggregate data are analysed. Having observed the substantial effects of the COVID-19 shock, monthly data that cover 2005M1-2024M12 period are split into two subperiods: Pre-COVID-19 period (2005M1-2019M11) and post-COVID-19 period (2021M09-2024M12). Compared to pre-COVID-19 period, findings have changed in three important ways in post-COVID-19 period. Firstly, the results of aggregate and gender-disaggregate data completely agree with each other in terms of the existence of the cointegration relationship. Secondly, the cointegration relationship is confirmed for all groups. Thirdly, estimated cointegration vectors provide consistent support for the Discouraged Worker hypothesis.Öğe Mapping Laz and Homshetsma in the Black Sea region: Kemalpaşa(Dilbilim Dernegi, 2025) Çelik, Ahmet Batuhan; Güven, Rıdvan; Akkuş, MehmetThis study presents a detailed examination of the nouns used by the Laz and Homshetsma-speaking communities in the Kemalpaşa district of Artvin, Türkiye. It aims to document and analyze the lexical features of these two endangered minority languages, which belong to the South Caucasian and Indo-European language families, respectively. The Black Sea region’s complex linguistic landscape results from historical migrations and interactions among various ethnic groups (Kırzıoğlu, 1976; Simonian, 2007). Using a lexical atlas approach, this research maps out the vocabulary differences and similarities between Laz and Homshetsma speakers in Kemalpaşa. Data collection involved extensive fieldwork, including interviews and data elicitation with Laz and Homshetsma native speakers. By highlighting the unique lexical traits of Laz and Homshetsma, the study also sheds light on the broader sociolinguistic dynamics of the region, offering insights into language contact, shift, and maintenance. The findings underscore the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity, advocating for policies that support the preservation of minority languages in Türkiye. This initial volume sets the stage for further comparative studies across different regions inhabited by Laz and Homshetsma speakers. This atlas serves as a crucial resource for linguists and anthropologists interested in the Caucasian linguistic area, contributing to the preservation and understanding of these endangered languages.Öğe Evaluating barriers to implementation of open innovation in SMEs: A case study in Ordu province(Awrak Thakafieh, 2025) Aytekin, Ahmet; Korucuk, SelçukApproaches such as innovation, innovation management, open innovation, and utilization of technology have become critical for almost all businesses to stay ahead of the competition in today's globalized corporate environment. Non-enterprise innovation applications, often known as open innovation in enterprises, are integrated by embedding them into internal systems. The production of innovative ideas in collaboration with non-enterprise partners can be classified as open innovation practices within small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs). As a result, they are critical components in assisting organizations, such as offering a competitive advantage to SMEs, cost reduction, improving customer service quality, and responding to market needs on time. Yet, SMEs have a number of challenges when it comes to open innovation applications. The elimination of these barriers and problems will also increase the agility of SMEs. In this context, the barriers to open innovation implementation in SMEs were investigated, and the criteria that prevent open innovation were identified. The weight coefficients representing the importance levels of the criteria were calculated using the Interval Valued Intuitionistic Fuzzy Ranking Comparison (RANCOM) technique. According to the findings, the most critical barrier in the fulfilment of open innovation was " inadequacy or lack of management support.".Öğe Evaluating gravity energy storage potential in Çoruh valley and recommendation for future applications(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2025) Küçük, Ahmet Orhan; Taplamacıoğlu, Mustafa Cengiz; Dursun, MahirIn this study, the major dams in the Çoruh Valley one of Turkey's key hydropower production regions (Deriner, Borçka, Muratli) are analyzed from a multidimensional perspective in terms of gravity-based energy storage (GES) integration. The dams' topographical features, surrounding land use, existing transportation and energy infrastructure, and geotechnical suitability are examined. As part of the modeling process, potential energy calculations are conducted for each dam, and energy storage capacity scenarios are developed based on varying mass module weights, lifting heights, and system installation densities. The analysis results indicate that Deriner Dam is the most suitable pilot site for a GES system, owing to its significant elevation difference (249 m), expansive and suitably sloped surrounding terrain, and well-established road connections. In contrast, Borçka and Muratli Dams offer lower potential capacity due to their limited elevation differences and terrain slope. The obtained results demonstrate that gravity-based energy storage systems are technically feasible in the Çoruh Valley and can provide a cost-effective solution in the long term. In this context, the study offers a pioneering assessment for the deployment of gravity-based energy storage technologies in Turkey, contributing strategically to integrated renewable energy systems and flexible grid solutions.Öğe Semantic and syntactic dimensional analysis: The case of Süleymaniye Mosque(Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University of Malang, 2025) Çakıroğlu, Birgül; Akat, ReyhanIn this study, it is acknowledged that sacred concepts influence the formation of sacred spaces and serve as a non-verbal language of expression. Accordingly, the research examines how the concrete manifestations of sacred concepts in Islam are reflected in the design principles shaping mosque architecture. The scope of the study is limited to five sacred concepts in Islam: wahdaniyet (unity), beka (eternity), ilim (knowledge), might, and the hereafter. The effects of these five concepts on the architectural design of the Süleymaniye Mosque, selected as the case study, were investigated. Data were collected through literature review, on-site visual observation and examination, and photography. The semiotic method was employed to conduct semantic and syntactic analyses of the obtained data. As a result, sub-concepts derived from the main sacred concepts were identified, and both the semantic dimensions of these sub-concepts and the design principles reflected in their syntactic dimensions were presented in separate tables. The findings indicate that the fundamental design principles reflected in each sacred concept in the semantic dimension predominantly embody unity and appropriateness. This study is significant as it provides a reference for the tangible expression of abstract sacred concepts that shape religious buildings, ensuring their design aligns with their intended spiritual functions. Moreover, the proposed analytical model is expected to make a valuable contribution to the literature and to architectural design education by offering a semiotic framework for interpreting sacred meanings, thereby facilitating the design of religious spaces.Öğe Can social media be a threat or an opportunity to public health via the impacts on diet quality?(Frontiers Media SA, 2025) Ayhan, Büşra; Köse, Süleyman; Saban Güler, Meryem; Bilici, SaniyeBackground: Previous studies have emphasized the influence of social media on people’s eating habits and preferences. Studies have indicated that social media can influence diet quality through a variety of processes in both positive and negative ways. But, it is still unknown how social media’s widespread use in daily life affects users’ nutritional condition. Objective: A survey form covering the frequency of social media use (SMU), topics related to nutrition followed, and accounts followed was administered by researchers. Participants self-reported age, weight, and height and provided 24-h dietary recall records. Methods: A total of 1,241 university students, all with at least one social media account, participated in the study. Nutrient Adequacy Ratio (NAR) and Mean Adequacy Ratio (MAR) scores were calculated based on the 24-h dietary recall records to assess diet quality. Results: Among the persons who use social media frequently, 39.4% were classified as male, while 60.6% were classified as female. The study also found that 48.7% of students who use social media rarely and 41.0% frequently are enrolled in health-related departments. Instagram was the most popular platform among students and the source of healthy nutrition recipes. Accordingly, it is seen that the frequency of social media use does not give a statistically significant result with BMI (p < 0.05). Students in health-related departments had significantly reduced energy intake compared to other departments (p < 0.05). However, they exhibited elevated consumption of fiber and vitamin A. Energy, protein, and carbohydrate intakes were not significantly different between students who used social media rarely and frequently. Calcium and potassium levels of those studying in the health department who use social media frequently were found to be significantly higher than those who use social media rarely (p < 0.05). Participant MAR scores and classifications were not significantly different by academic department or SMU classification (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Social media holds potential as a tool for promoting healthy food choices among university students who actively engage with it.Öğe Phytochemical investigation, antimicrobial activities, and molecular docking studies on endemic Gelasia sericea (Aucher ex DC.) Zaika, Sukhor. & N.Kilian yielded five new compounds (8-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-6-hydroxy-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1H-isochromen-1-one (1), rel. (3 R,3′S)-8,8’-oxybis[6-hydroxy-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3,4-dihydro-1H-isochromen-1-one] (2), 3-O-(4-O-glyceryl)-α-D-xylopyranosyl-5-methyl-4H-pyran-4-one (3), 2-carboxyl-3-hydroxy-4′-methoxy-5-O-(3-O-glyceryl)-β-D-xylopyranosylbibenzyl (4), and 2-carboxyl-3,4’-dihydroxy-5-O-(β-D-apiofuranosyl)-(1→6)-β-D-glucopyranosylbibenzyl (5). Five known compounds as p-coumaric acid (6), scorzopigmecosite (7), scorzocreticin (8), quercetin (9), and kelampayoside A (10). Spectroscopic methods were used to characterise the structures of compounds 1–10. All the isolated compounds, except compound 10, exhibited an inhibition zone diameter of 10–12 mm against at least one of the nine different microorganisms tested. Compound 8 was found to be the most effective with an MIC value of 12.5 μg/mL against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Additionally, molecular docking analysis of compounds 1–10 was performed, targeting P. aeruginosa RhlR and DNA gyrase B enzymes. Among the identified compounds, compound 2 exhibited the most promising inhibitory activity against both targets, with binding energies of −12.0 and −11.3 kcal/mol, respectively.Öğe Mechanical and biological performance of sodium fluoride (NaF) incorporated wood–plastic composites(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2025) Taşçıooğlu, Cihat; Tufan, Mürşit; Köse, Coşkun; Yoshimura, Tsuyoshi; Ohmura, WakakoThe mechanical and biological (decay and mold fungi and termite) resistance of wood–plastic composites (WPCs) incorporated with sodium fluoride (NaF) was tested. Various combinations of wood-polymer composites were manufactured via the incorporation of NaF at different retention levels. Two different mesh sizes of the wood particles were used. ASTM standards D683 and D970 were used to evaluate the mechanical properties of the manufactured specimens. Addition of NaF up to 2% by weight did not negatively affect the tensile and flexural strengths and moduli of the tested specimens. Furthermore, the mass loss of wood–plastic composites owing to decay fungi and termite activity was significantly reduced at the tested retention levels. The mass losses were recorded as 0.8% for Fomitopsis palustris and 1,4% and 2.0% for Trametes versicolor for the highest NaF retention levels in the high wood content composites. Similarly, mass losses due to laboratory termite activity were limited to 0.9% to 1.1% in the highest wood ratio specimens with 2.0% NaF. Furthermore, the mold growth rate was significantly reduced and remained at the lowest level during the 4 weeks of incubation for the NaF-incorporated WPC formulations.Öğe May our language not perish. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research utilizes questionnaires and interviews within Laz-speaking communities. While the questionnaires (n=259) probed vitality-related aspects, the interviews (n=5) offered narrative data, essential for understanding lived experiences and perceptions of the community. Bridging a crucial gap in research by encompassing socio-cultural and demographic dimensions, the study reveals diverse influences on the visibility of Laz. This innovative approach contributes significantly to the broader field, offering a holistic exploration of ethnolinguistic vitality. Findings expose variations shaped by linguistic, cultural, and social dynamics. The quantitative data unveil statistically significant mean disparities in the perceptions of vitality held by the speakers towards their heritage language. The qualitative analysis, focusing on generational tensions, societal adaptations, and language use, underscores the resilience and challenges faced by the Laz.Öğe Aphid species (Hemiptera: Aphididae) on medicinal-aromatic plants in Artvin (Türkiye)(Plant Protection Central Research Institute, 2025) Akyıldırım Beğen, Hayal; Eminağaoğlu, Özgür; Görür, Gazi; Şenol, Özhan; Yüksel, EmrahMedicinal and aromatic plants have recently gained popularity, contributing to the economic strength of countries or regions by increasing employment opportunities and representing the areas where they are grown, thus creating various tourism possibilities. However, exposure of these plants to insect groups consuming plant sap, such as aphids, in their natural or unnatural habitats can lead to product loss. There are 350 species of plants exhibiting medicinal-aromatic properties in Artvin province. In this study, medicinal-aromatic plant species distributed in the province were evaluated in terms of aphid population, and 80 aphid species were identified from 72 medicinal-aromatic plants. According to the data obtained from the fields, the highest number of aphid species were found on apple (Malus sylvestris), poplar (Populus nigra), plum (Prunus spp.) and oak (Quercus petreae) species respectively. Aphids were rarely found in medicinal-aromatic plants that give off a strong odor, such as thyme and mint, and it was observed that they did not form dense populations. It was determined that the identified aphid species generally formed dense populations on the leaf surface of fruit-bearing species while they fed on stems and leaves in annual species. To conclude, the study highlights the significant impact of aphid populations on the medicinal-aromatic plants in Artvin, underscoring the need for continuous monitoring and effective management strategies to protect the plants and the economic opportunities they represent.Öğe Forest ecosystem services and local perception in protected areas: Evidence from the eastern black sea region(Corvinus University of Budapest, 2025) İnanç Özkan, Sevim; Aksu, GüvenThis study investigates local community perceptions of forest ecosystem services within protected areas of Turkey’s Eastern Black Sea region, focusing on socio-economic, cultural, and geographic influences. Surveys conducted with 200 participants across six conservation sites revealed high awareness of key services including air quality regulation, erosion control, biodiversity conservation, recreation, and cultural heritage. Perceptions varied significantly with age, education, income source, and proximity to protected areas. Opinions on environmental protection measures and local participation were mixed, highlighting a pronounced need for enhanced education and participatory governance. The findings emphasize the importance of integrating traditional ecological knowledge and local socio-cultural factors into management strategies to support sustainable conservation.Öğe Effect of thermal modification and picture varnish application on color change of scots pine (Pinus Sylvestris L.) wood(Lukasiewicz Research Network - Poznan Institute of Technology, 2025) Peker, Hüseyin; Ayata, Ümit; Ulay, GökselScots pine is one of the important tree species used by the wood processing industry in many countries for both interior and exterior applications. It is well known that thermal treatment alters the color of wood. To protect wood from outdoor environmental conditions, certain chemicals are applied to its surface. These protective chemicals also influence the color of thermally treated wood. In this study, the color-altering effect of picture varnish (refined linseed oil), commonly used as a protective chemical in the field of painting, was investigated on both thermally treated and untreated wood materials. Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) wood samples were subjected to thermal treatment at 212 °C for 2 h. Following this, varnish made from refined linseed oil was applied to some of these samples and some untreated samples, with the remaining untreated samples used as controls. Color and whiteness index (WI*) values were analyzed on the resulting four different materials, and the results were compared. Analysis of variance showed significant effects for the factors of heat treatment, picture varnish application, and their interaction, on WI* (|| and ⊥), a*, L*, ho, b*, and C* values. In the non-heat-treated samples, the application of varnish resulted in reductions in WI* values in both directions and in L* values, while increases were observed in ho, b*, C*, and a* values. Additionally, the application of varnish to the heat-treated samples resulted in an increase in a* values, while reductions were observed in WI* values in both directions, as well as in ho, L*, b*, and C* values. After heat treatment, the ∆E* value for Scots pine wood was calculated as 33.63. For both heat-treated and non-heat-treated samples, varnish application resulted in negative ∆L* values and positive ∆a* values. Additionally, ∆b* and ∆C* values were positive in the non-heat-treated and varnished samples, while they were negative in the heat-treated and varnished samples. The protective picture varnish used in the study significantly altered the color of both thermally treated and untreated wood.Öğe Cultural adaptation and Turkish version of the Late-Life Function and Disability Instrument for individuals with gonarthrosis: A validity and reliability study(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2025) Hazar, Yağmur; Atıcı, Emine; Çağlıyan Erdoğan, Hande; Kardesş KübraPurposes: This study aimed to culturally adapt and assess the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Late-Life Function and Disability Instrument (LLFDI) in elderly individuals with knee osteoarthritis (gonarthrosis). Methods: A total of 240 participants aged ≥65 were selected using simple random sampling. The adaptation process followed Beaton’s guidelines and included translation, back-translation, and pilot testing. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha, test-retest, and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC), while validity was evaluated via exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and convergent validity with established scales. As part of convergent validity, the relationship of the LLFDI with Barthe Index (BI) and the Functional Independent Measurement (FIM), the Lequesne Index were used. The correlations between the LLFDI scores and these scales were analyzed to determine the level of convergent validity. Results: The LLFDI demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach’s α > 0.70) and test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.734–0.899). Construct validity was supported by Exploratory Factor Analysis (KMO = 0.838–0.952) and significant Bartlett’s Test (p < 0.001), revealing appropriate factor structures. Convergent validity was confirmed through significant correlations with the BI, FIM, and Lequesne Index. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that the Turkish version of the LLFDI is a valid and reliable assessment tool for individuals diagnosed with gonarthrosis. Clinical Trials: NCT06858085.Öğe BCI for mobile devices: Time-frequency and representation learning analysis of mobile gesture tasks(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2025) Yılmaz, Çagatay Murat; Ulu, Ahmet; Demirbaş, GülşahMobile devices are central to daily life, yet their interaction remains primarily limited to touch and voice, which may be impractical in restricted mobility scenarios. Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) offer a promising alternative by enabling device control through neural activity. Although motor imagery (MI) BCIs have been extensively studied, MI signals for mobile-specific gestures remain relatively underexplored. This study addresses this gap by investigating the effectiveness of combining time-frequency transformations with deep learning for classifying MI of mobile gestures. Using the MI-BMPI dataset-comprising EEG recordings of participants imagining tapping and swiping, and among the few publicly available datasets of its kind-we applied Short Time Fourier Transform, Continuous Wavelet Transform, Stockwell Transform, and Hilbert-Huang Transform as inputs to architectures including ResNeSt-50d, HRNet-W18, ConvNeXt-Base, DeiT-Base, Swin Transformer-Tiny, and RegNetX-002. In the classification of tapping and swiping MI tasks, performance across different subjects ranged from 0.61 to 0.947 when averaged over five random seeds, while individual subject models achieved results between 0.708 and 0.975. These promising outcomes are consistent with other evaluation metrics. Overall, this work provides the first systematic evaluation of mobile gesture MI-BCIs, demonstrating that time-frequency representations coupled with deep learning enable robust EEG-based mobile interaction and laying the groundwork for the development of future neuroadaptive technologies.Öğe Assessing effects of forest fires on plant nutrients and biomass in northeastern Türkiye(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2025) Sağlam, Bülent; Uçarlı, Yasin; Aybar, Mustafa; Yılmaz, Fatma NurForest fires have the potential to greatly impact both flora and fauna and are therefore one of the key regulators of ecosystem sustainability. The primary aim of this research was to assess the impact of forest fires on plant nutrients and weight in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) forests in the Northeastern Türkiye. Plant samples were collected from designated burned and control plots in the research region in May and August season. The weight of the plants was measured both after drying in an oven and after air-drying. Subsequently, the plant samples were analyzed to determine the levels of Ca, Fe, Mg, Na, K, C, H, N, and S nutrients. The results revealed that the levels of all nutrients were greater in the burned area compared to the control plots. Furthermore, Ca, Fe, Mg, H, and N content exhibited statistically significant disparities when compared to the control plots. The N% content in the burned area during the month of May was 5.57, while in the control plot it was 4.97. This study also demonstrated that prescribed fire may effectively enhance plant nutrients contents and a tool for sustainable use of forest resources.Öğe Investigation of the long-term effects of pandemic vaccines on physical and cognitive performance after the pandemic(Turkish Geriatrics Society, 2025) Yıldız, Rıdvan; Nişancı, Onur SeçginIntroduction:The present study compared the post-pandemic effects of different vaccines and vaccine combinations administered during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic in individuals defined as “young-elderly.” Materials and Method: Participants included 440 volunteers who met the inclusion criteria. They were divided into four groups based on the type of vaccine they had received. During data collection, participants completed a Personal Information Form, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, the 36-item Short Form Health Survey, and the Alusti Test. The study was conducted between December 15, 2024, and May 29, 2025.Data were analyzed using SPSS version 28.0. Results: The analyses revealed a statistically significant difference between groups in both the Alusti test (assesses physical performance) and the 36-item Short Form Health Survey (assesses quality of life) (p<0.05).This difference was particularly pronounced in the group that received the combination of BioNTech and Sinovac vaccines;it hadlower scores on physical performance and quality of life compared to the other groups. Cognitive performance did not differ significantly between the groups (p>0.05). Conclusion:Therefore,the coronavirus disease vaccines may have varying long-term effects on the individual’s overall health status and quality of life.Öğe Solo demand, rising rents: how young singles shape urban housing costs(Emerald Publishing, 2025) Çalışkan, Bilal; Usta, Ziya; Hatami, MasudPurpose – This study investigates how the concentration of young single-person households (aged 24–35 years) influences small-unit rental prices in Istanbul’s fragmented housing market. Amid rapid demographic shifts and urban restructuring, this paper aims to provide robust causal evidence on the demand-side pressures driven by young singles in shaping rental dynamics, particularly in the increasingly competitive one-bedroom apartment segment. Design/methodology/approach – Using a novel cross-sectional data set covering 605 neighborhoods in Istanbul, this study applies a two-stage least squares instrumental variable strategy to address endogeneity, particularly simultaneity bias. The spatially lagged share of young singles is used as an instrument. The model controls for a rich set of neighborhood-level variables, including accessibility, amenities, income, education, population structure and housing stock age. Findings – A one-percentage-point increase in the share of young single-person households leads to a 4.2% increase in average rents for one-bedroom apartments. These effects are more pronounced in neighborhoods near employment centers, with strong transit access and lifestyle amenities. The results of this study emphasize that demographic clustering at the micro scale drives localized price inflation in the rental market and disproportionately burdens high-demand segments. Originality/value – To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is among the first to causally link neighborhood-level solo living patterns to rental inflation in emerging urban contexts. This study advances housing scholarship by segmenting the market by unit size and household structure, while offering policy-relevant insights for managing affordability. The findings of this study support a targeted small-unit housing strategy that responds to evolving demographic realities in dense metropolitan regions.Öğe School wide-positive behavioral interventions and supports in Europe: A scoping review(SAGE Publications Inc., 2025) Demirtaş, Şenol; Karahan, Mehmet Baki; Afacan, Kemal; Karasu, Necdet; Goei, Sui LinResearch on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) has been conducted extensively in the United States, but examining the implementation of PBIS in other countries is also essential. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports has been implemented in school settings in several European countries for many years. To the best of our knowledge, no literature reviews have focused on PBIS implementations in European countries. This scoping review provides an overview of the literature on the implementation and adaptation of PBIS in European countries. We searched the electronic databases of ERIC, Scopus, and the Web of Science. Studies were included based on a priori eligibility criteria. For each of the identified 30 studies from 12 countries, we examined the country and number of research studies on SW-PBIS Tier 1, implementation details, the author reported essential elements and cultural adaptation, study characteristics, and outcomes. Results showed that researchers in the Nordic countries and the Netherlands have made significant progress in SW-PBIS implementations. Researchers in other European countries also have made great efforts to adapt and spread PBIS in their local contexts. Most adaptations incorporated essential elements of PBIS. However, we identified gaps in equity, policy, and technical assistance centers in most of these adaptations.
