Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) and Uludağ Fir (Abies Nordmanniana (Stev.) Spach. Subsp. bornmülleriana (Mattf.)) are two important commercial species in TURKEY. They grow in association, particularly in Blacksea Region, the Northwest of Turkey. The site index conversion equations important for estimating the site index of one species from the site index of another species in mixed stands. In beech/fir mixed stands with inconsistent stratification, equations that predict site index for beech species (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) from site index of Uludağ fir (Abies Nordmanniana (Stev.) Spach. Subsp. bornmülleriana (Mattf.)) are needed to effective forest management and evaluating basic site conditions for ecological field studies. 110 study plots were established in mixed spruce/aspen stands. The height and breast height ages of the site trees were measured and the site index was estimated with these data. Geometric linear regression was used to estimate the parameters of a linear model relating te site indices of Uludağ fir and beech species. The correlation between the site index of fir and beech was 0.656, indicating a good fit to the linear model. Validalion procedure showed that conversion equations was sutiable for studied mixed stands. The conversion equations can be applied in mixed species stands with inconsistent stratification or in stand conversion situations for accurate and reliable evaluation of forest quality.
