dc.description.abstractThis article investigates the long-run relationship between the labour force participation rate and the unemployment rate for Türkiye. Using Johansen cointegration methodology, both aggregate and gender-disaggregate data are analysed. Having observed the substantial effects of the COVID-19 shock, monthly data that cover 2005M1-2024M12 period are split into two subperiods: Pre-COVID-19 period (2005M1-2019M11) and post-COVID-19 period (2021M09-2024M12). Compared to pre-COVID-19 period, findings have changed in three important ways in post-COVID-19 period. Firstly, the results of aggregate and gender-disaggregate data completely agree with each other in terms of the existence of the cointegration relationship. Secondly, the cointegration relationship is confirmed for all groups. Thirdly, estimated cointegration vectors provide consistent support for the Discouraged Worker hypothesis.
