| dc.description.abstract | Hayao Miyazaki’nin yönettiği Mononoke-hime (Prenses Mononoke, 1997), Japonya’ya özgü bir animasyon türü olan anime sinemasının önemli örneklerinden biridir. Bu anime filmi, insan ve doğa arasındaki ilişkiyi derinlemesine ele alan anlatısıyla ekoeleştirel bir inceleme için oldukça elverişlidir. Japonya’nın Muromachi döneminde geçen bu anime, insan-doğa çatışmasını, endüstrileşmenin doğa üzerindeki etkilerini ve çevresel bozulmayı konu alır. Zengin anlatı yapısı ve çok boyutlu karakterleri aracılığıyla, insanların doğa üzerindeki sömürücü etkisini eleştirirken bir arada yaşama ve ekolojik denge arayışının önemine dikkat çeker. Anime, bu yönüyle ekolojik sorunların yalnızca edebiyatta değil, aynı zamanda görsel kültür yoluyla da nasıl temsil edilebileceğini göstermekte ve çevresel farkındalık yaratma potansiyeli sunmaktadır. Bu çalışma, öncelikle ekoeleştiri kuramının temel kavramlarına değinerek insan merkezcilik ve doğa merkezcilik arasındaki ayrımı ele almaktadır. Ardından, doğa merkezci bir yaklaşım olan derin ekoloji bağlamında Mononoke-hime anime filminin anlatısı incelenerek, doğa ile insan arasındaki ilişkinin temsilleri ve bu temsillerin ekolojik yansımaları tartışılmaktadır. Anime, ekolojik denge ve doğanın içsel değerine saygı duyulması gerektiğini vurgularken, insan ve doğa arasındaki ilişkinin yalnızca çatışma değil, uzlaşma temelli de olabileceğini göstermektedir. Bu bağlamda Mononoke-hime, yalnızca çevresel sorunları anlatan bir metin olarak değil, aynı zamanda izleyicisini doğa ile olan ilişkisini sorgulamaya yönlendiren bir ekolojik bilinç aracı olarak değerlendirilmektedir. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Mononoke-hime (Princess Mononoke, 1997), directed by Hayao Miyazaki, is one of the significant examples of anime cinema, a distinctive form of animation originating from Japan. This anime film is highly suitable for an ecocritical analysis due to its profound exploration of the relationship between humans and nature. Set during Japan’s Muromachi period, this anime addresses themes such as human– nature conflict, the impacts of industrialisation on the natural world, and environmental degradation. Through its rich narrative structure and multidimensional characters, the anime critiques humanity’s exploitative attitude toward nature while highlighting the importance of coexistence and ecological balance. In doing so, it demonstrates how ecological issues can be represented not only in literature but also through visual culture, offering strong potential for fostering environmental awareness. This study first explains the fundamental concepts of ecocritical theory, focusing on the distinction between anthropocentrism and ecocentrism. It then examines the narrative of Mononokehime within the framework of deep ecology—an ecocentric approach—to analyse the representations of the human–nature relationship and their ecological implications. Emphasising ecological balance and the intrinsic value of nature, the anime shows that the relationship between humans and the natural world is not solely defined by conflict but can also be shaped through reconciliation. In this respect, Mononoke-hime is evaluated not merely as a text depicting environmental issues but as a tool of ecological consciousness that encourages viewers to reconsider their relationship with nature. | |
