Özet
Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) is a group of chronic inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Age, gender, genetics, diet, smoking, and medications all play a role in the development of the disease. The most common symptoms are severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, and fatigue. Imaging studies, endoscopy and biopsy are used to diagnose the disease. Treatment includes the use of 5-aminosalicylic acid, corticosteroids, antibiotics, and immunomodulatory drugs. Patient education is critical in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. Measures should be taken to relieve symptoms, prevent complications, and improve quality of life and comfort.
