Özet
This research examines the effects and possible consequences of the ‘new border regime’ on the Georgian-Turkish border. Based on ethnographic fieldwork conducted in the border villages of Georgia and Turkey, the research presents how the ‘border’ has changed socially, culturally, and economically with the abolition of visas by identifying four interrelated factors: (i) economic, (ii) crime (smuggling), (iii) cultural identity, and (iv) social life. For this purpose, 168 interviews were conducted between June 2018 and February 2020 with people living in villages on the Georgia-Turkey border. In this respect, by using the ‘border pattern’ concept, the research contributes to understanding the changes in the process and complexity of borders with a holistic approach.
