Öğe A study on developing an attitude scale towards multi-grade classrooms for elementary school teachers(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 2011) Coşkun, Kerem; Metin, Mustafa; Bülbül, Kenan; Kaleli Yılmaz, GülThe aim of this study is to develop an attitude scale towards multi-grade classrooms (AMC) for elementary school teachers who work in the Multi-grade Classrooms. The research was carried out with the total 215 elementary school teachers in Tokat and Samsun provinces in Turkey. The study carried out in five stages that are literature review, creating item pool, expert opinions, administer of scale and computing the reliability and validity. The five point rating scale consisted of 50 items was developed. The draft scale obtained has been applied to the total 205 elementary school teachers and as a result of factor analysis; the number of items in draft scale was reduced to 43. The Cronbach-Alpha internal integrity coefficient of the final version of the scale was found to be 0.81 after factor analysis was carried out. The study was carried out during spring semester of 2010 educational periods. The sample of the study consisted of 120 pre-service teachers at the Department of Primary Teacher Education in Faculty of Education at Artvin Çoruh University. In the study, qualitative research method was used. As a result of study, it was found that pre-service teachers have knowledge about air, water, soil pollution, garbage problem and green house effect. The study was carried out during fall semester of 2011 educational periods. The sample of the study consisted of 180 elementary prospective teachers at the Department of elementary Teacher Education in Faculty of Education at Artvin Coruh University. Survey methodology was used in this study. Science teaching attitude scale was used as a data collection toll. In the study, t-test; one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) based on p=0.05 significance level were used to clarify the significance of the differences on means. At the end of study, there are not significant difference between gender, grade level, graduation type of high school and prospective teachers' attitude towards science teaching. The research was carried out with 1235 pre-service teachers that 567(45.9%) were freshman; 401 (32.5%) were sophomore; 151 (12.2%) were junior and 116 (9.4%) were senior students at different universities in Turkey. The study consists of five parts including literature review, item pool, experts' opinions, administration of scale and computing the reliability and validity. While constituting the item pool, an interview was carried out with 15 pre-service teachers related to instructional technologies. Among from 55 items which are directly related with the subject of attitude or which are selected from the relevant interviews. 45 of them were edited by expert opinions the five point likert type. The draft scale was administered to 1235 pre-service teachers. As a result of factor analysis, the number of items was reduced to 37. After carring out factor analysis the Cronbach-Alpha internal integrity coefficient of the final version of the scale was found as 0.949. From this point of view, an instructional instrument using a concept cartoon adapted with 5E model has developed and introduced in this study. The research was carried out with the 768 pre-service teachers in different universities in Turkey. The study consists of five parts including a literature review, an item pool, experts’ opinions, administration of scale and computing the reliability and validity. While constituting the pool of items, an interview was carried out with 15 pre-service teachers regarding pedagogical content knowledge and 20 teachers were asked to write an essay related to this topic. The draft scale obtained was administered to 768 pre-service teachers and the result of factor analysis, the number of items was reduced to 38. Besides, the Cronbach-Alpha internal integrity coefficient of the final version of the scale was found to be 0.967. After computing the reliability of PCKS, the scale is ready to be used.Öğe The effect of animation enhanced worksheets prepared based on 5E model for the grade 9 students on alternative conceptions of physical and chemical changes(Elsevier Science BV, 2012) Kolomuç, Ali; Özmen, Haluk; Metin, Mustafa; Açışlı, Sibel; Başkan, G. A.; Özdamlı, F.; Kanbul, S.; Özcan, D.The aim of this study is to determine the effect of teaching material based on 5E model for overcoming the alternative conceptions related to physical and chemical change. A quasi-experimental design and one control group (CG, N = 40) and one experimental group (EG, N = 40) were used. While the control group taught traditional instruction the experimental group received animation enhanced worksheets-based instruction. Teaching material included worksheet enriched with animations related to physical and chemical changes. The Concept Achievement Test consisting of 17 open-ended questions was used to collect data as pretest and posttest. Results indicate that while there is no statistically significant difference between groups in pretest, performance of EG students is greater than the CG ones in posttest. And also, the EG students are better in remediating their alternative conceptions related to the physical and chemical change. Based on the study, it is concluded that animation enhanced worksheets may be effective way to improve students' understanding of basic concepts and to dispell students' alternative conceptions. Araştırma, 2006–2007 güz dönemi Artvin Çoruh Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi İlköğretim Bölümü Sınıf Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalında öğrenim gören 25 üçüncü sınıf öğrencisi ile yürütülmüştür. Nitel araştırma yönteminin kullanıldığı bu araştırma dört aşamada tamamlanmıştır: İlk aşamada, adaylara web tasarımı yapabilmeleri için gerekli program ve birtakım kodlamalar anlatılmıştır. İkinci aşamada, adaylara İlköğretim 5. sınıf Fen Bilgisi Öğretim Programında bulunan konuların kazanımlarına uygun web sayfaları hazırlamaları istenmiştir. Üçüncü aşamada, adaylardan hazırlamış oldukları web sayfalarını sınıf ortamında sunmaları istenmiştir. Son aşamada, adaylara web sayfası hazırlamalarının teknolojiyi kullanabilme becerilerini nasıl etkilediğini belirlemek için yarı yapılandırılmış mülakat uygulanmıştır. A.; Özdamlı, F.; Kanbul, S.; Özcan, D.The aim of this study is to determinate primary pre-service teachers' attitude towards science and technology laboratory respect to the different variables such as gender, grade level, graduation type of high school. The study was carried out during spring semester of 2011 educational periods. The sample of the study consisted of 326 primary pre-service teachers at the Department of Primary Teacher Education in Faculty of Education at Artvin Coruh University. Survey methodology was used in this study. In the study, science laboratory attitude scale was used as a data collection toll. Primary pre-service teachers' responses to the scale were statistically analyzed according to some variables via SPSS 11.5 software. In the study, some parametric tests such as t-test; one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) based on p=0.05 significance level were used to clarify the significance of the differences on means. LSD test was used in order to determine source of the differences on means in ANOVA. At the end of study, there is not a significant difference between graduation type of high school and primary pre-service teachers' attitude towards science and technology laboratory, while there are significant differences between gender, grade level and their' attitude. The study was carried out at spring semester of 2010 with 660 high school students who were chosen as a sample from the cities of Artvin and Trabzon, in Turkey. "Kolb Learning Style Inventory" was used as a data collection. tool. The inventory was used to determinate the students' learning styles as divergent, assimilator, convergent, and accommodator and the information sheet for demographic factors such as gender, grade level, school type, education of mother and father was used to collect information from students. The data were analyzed by using frequency, percent value, mean scores, standard deviation, independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA. The results show that the dominant learning style among the students is accommodator and it is followed by divergent learning style. There was not significantly difference between students' learning style and gender except for "Active Experimentation (AE) and AE-RO", grade level "except for Concrete Experience (CE)", school type, education of mother "expert for Reflective Observation (RO)" and education of father.Öğe Investigation of teacher opinions about performance assessment with respect to the gender and branch variables(2011) Metin, Mustafa; Özmen, HalukThe aim of study is to investigate teachers' opinions about performance assessment with respect to the gender and branch variables. The study was carried out with 610 primary teachers who educated primary schools in Artvin and Rize cities in spring semester of 2009-2010. Survey methodology was used in this descriptive manner study. Data was gathered with a 35-item questionnaire which was developed and provided to reliability and validity by the researchers. As a result of the study, it was determined that teachers had positive opinions about performance assessment. The study's data was gathered thought semi structured interviews. Content analysis has been used to analyze the data. As a result teachers didnt't apply any alternative assessment techniques efficently because of lacking time, knowledge, crowded classrooms and poor physical conditions.Öğe Opinions of prospective teachers about utilizing the 5E instructional model(SILA SCIENCE, 2011) Metin, Mustafa; Coşkun, Kerem; Birişçi, Salih; Yılmaz, Gül KaleliThe aim of this study is to determine the opinions of prospective teachers about utilizing the 5E instructional model. The study was carried out during spring semester of 2008 educational periods. The sample of the study consisted of 60 sophomore prospective teachers at the Department of Primary Teacher Education in Faculty of Education at Artvin comb University in Artvin. In the study, qualitative research method was used. This study was conducted in three stages. In the first stage, the prospective teachers were given national education standards which were about fourth and fifth class Science and Technology course and then they were asked to prepare an activity appropriate for the 5E instructional model. In the second stage, they were asked to carry out those activities into classroom. In the last stage, semi-structured interviews were followed up with the prospective teachers. The results of study revealed that the prospective teachers have positive opinions on applying of the 5E instructional model in classroom. They believe that the 5E instructional model provides the students to learn the topic. But the prospective teachers complained that insufficient learning materials and equipments which were needed for applying to the 5E model in classroom environment. In addition to these results, prospective teachers said that designing and implementing activities takes too much time when activity is practiced in classroom.Öğe Prospective teachers' views about formative assessment(2010) Metin, Mustafa; Özmen, HalukBu çalışma, 2006-2007 eğitim-öğretim dönemi güz yarıyılında, KTÜ, Artvin Eğitim Fakültesi İlköğretim Bölümü Sınıf Öğretmenliği Programı üçüncü sınıfta öğrenim gören toplam yirmi beş öğretmen adayı ile Öğretim Teknolojileri ve Materyal Geliştirme (ÖTMG) dersi kapsamında yürütülmüştür. Dört aşamalı araştırmanın ilk aşamasında öğrencilere, kavram ağı, kavram haritası, çalışma yaprağı ve yapılandırılmış grid gibi öğretim materyalleri hazırlamak için gerekli bilgiler sunulmuştur. İkinci aşamada; öğretim materyalleri geliştirmeleri ve sınıfta sunmaları istenmiştir. Üçüncü aşamada; öğretim materyalleri araştırmacılar tarafından incelenerek, hatalar ve eksiklikler her bir öğrenciye dönüt olarak verilmiştir. Son aşamada ise öğrencilerin verilen dönütlere göre ödevleri tekrar hazırlamaları ve sunmaları istenmiştir. Bu süreç sonunda öğrencilerde meydana gelen değişme ve gelişmeler yarı yapılandırılmış mülakatlarla belirlenmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda adaylar, verilen geribildirim ile eksik ve iyi yönlerinin farkına vardıkları ve ona göre çalışmalarını yönlendirebildiklerini, kendi kendilerini değerlendirmeyi öğrendiklerini ve eleştirel düşünme yeteneklerinin geliştiğini ifade etmişlerdir.Öğe A study on developing "Basic Computer Use Performance Scale (BCUPS)" for Primary Students(Elsevier Science BV, 2012) Metin, Mustafa; Birişçi, Salih; Kolomuç, Ali; Coşkun, Kerem; Kolomuç, Ali; Başkan, G. A.; Özdamlı, F.; Kanbul, S.; Özcan, D.Aim of computer courses in primary education is to teach information technology use skills in the light of modern technological developments in Turkey. From this point, the aim of study is develop a scale to uncover of primary students' basic computer use performances. In order to develop a scale, explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted with a sample of 835 primary students. According to explanatory factor analysis (EFA) results BCUPS was developed that has 53 items under seven subscales. As a result of confirmatory factor analysis, RMSEA value was found at 0.046. The Cronbach-Alpha internal integrity coefficient of the final version of the BCUPS was found at 0.971. The results of the two analysis illustrated that BCUPS is a valid and reliable scale for measuring basic computer performance.Öğe Sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının yapılandırmacı kuramın 5E modeline uygun etkinlikler tasarlarken ve uygularken karşılaştıkları sorunlar(Necatibey Eğitim Fakültesi, 2009) Metin, Mustafa; Özmen, HalukBu araştırma, öğretmen adaylarının yapılandırmacı kuramın 5E modeline uygun etkinlikleri tasarlarken ve uygularken karşılaştıkları sorunları belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışma Artvin Çoruh Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Sınıf Öğretmenliği üçüncü sınıfta öğrenim gören yirmi beş öğretmen adayıyla, 2007–2008 yılı bahar döneminde Fen Bilgisi Öğretimi-II dersi uygulamaları kapsamında yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada nitel araştırma metodu kullanılmıştır. Çalışma üç aşamada tamamlanmıştır: İlk aşamada; öğretmen adaylarına ilköğretim 5. sınıf Fen ve Teknoloji dersi konularıyla ilgili kazanımlar verilerek 5E modeline uygun etkinlik tasarlamaları, ikinci aşamada tasarladıkları etkinliği sınıfta uygulamaları istenmiş ve araştırmacılardan birisi tarafından gözlenmiştir. Son aşamada ise; araştırmacılar öğretmen adaylarıyla yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme yapmıştır. Bu çalışmadan elde edilen sonuçlara göre; öğretmen adaylarının zamanı etkin kullanamama, 5E basamaklarını tam uygulayamama, sınıf disiplinini sağlayamama, günlük hayatla ilişkilendirememe, öğrencilerin ilgilerini çekememe ve nasıl değerlendirme yapacağını bilmeme gibi sorunlarla karşılaştıkları tespit edilmiştir.Öğe The examinations of teachers' attitude towards performance assessment with respect to the different variables(2011) Metin, MustafaThe aim of this study is to determine examinations of teachers' attitudes towards performance assessment with respect to the different variable. This research was carried out in fall semester of 2009 in Artvin in northeastern Turkey with 566 teachers. Survey methodology was used in this study. Results show that, teachers' performance assessment attitudes and attitudes towards using performance assessment in classroom, negative attitudes towards performance assessment and attitudes towards self and peer assessment subscale are at medium level. No significant differences were found (p>0.05) between gender sub-scales of performance assessment attitude apart from negative attitudes towards performance assessment sub-scale. Besides, there are significant difference (p<0.05) performance assessment attitude scale and sub-scales between different variable such as age and professional experience. Teachers under the age of 25 years have more positive attitude performance assessment and each subscale than the other ones. "Kolb Learning Style Inventory" was used as a data collection tool. The data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, means, standard deviation, independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA. The results show that the dominant learning style among the students is accommodator and it is followed by convergent, divergent and assimilator learning style. There was not significantly difference between students' learning style and gender and between students' learning style and grade level.
